About this Project

This project explores how freely available AI tools can streamline the process of turning an idea into a final UX/UI design within a three-day timeframe.
Imagine trying to apply for a visa, only to be met with legal jargon, outdated websites, and confusing requiremnts. Where do you turn for clear, accurate guidance? Ellis AI was designed to be that trusted assistant—providing immigrants, law firms, and employers with real-time, reliable legal support.

Creativity Unleashed via Ideanote.io

After reviewing the company’s mission, I utilized Ideanote, a collaborative innovation management tool that enables users to submit, discuss, and prioritize ideas for a wide range of projects, initiatives, and improvements within an organization. Through this platform, I arrived at a solution: an advanced AI system. This AI system harnesses natural language processing and machine learning to provide real-time guidance and support to immigrants, addressing their queries, offering personalized advice, and streamlining the completion of forms and documents, all with the aim of simplifying the immigration process.

Defining survey goals with ChatGPT

In an effort to expedite my research process, I’ve provided the following prompt to ChatGPT: ‘As a UX researcher, I aim to establish three survey scopes for an AI Immigration Chatbox project. Additionally, please provide three goals that should be addressed in my survey.

Usability and User Satisfaction
Goal: Assess the usability of the AI Immigration Chatbox and understand user satisfaction with its features and interactions.

User Trust and Privacy
Goal: Investigate user perceptions of trust and concerns regarding privacy while using the AI Immigration Chatbox.

Feature Prioritization
Goal: Determine which additional features or improvements users would like to see in the AI Immigration Chatbox.

Typeform AI for surveys and Copy.ai for user insights

Leveraging ChatGPT and Typeform AI, I’ve designed a survey with the aim of gaining deeper insights into user behavior and preferences. This survey will assist in contextualizing responses across diverse user segments, enabling a more comprehensive understanding of my target audience’s needs and preferences for an AI immigration assistant chatbox.

I conducted surveys with 32 participants to gauge user behavior at scale. Three user insights were generated to support the design thinking process.

Integration with official immigration databases is a key priority. The ability to access real-time policy updates and have accurate information from authorized sources is valued by users.

Clear and simple user interface is highly valued. This suggests that ease of navigation and user-friendliness are important factors for individuals seeking immigration assistance through the chatbox.

There is a range of comfort levels when sharing personal information with an AI chatbox. While some were very comfortable, others expressed discomfort or reluctance. This suggests the importance of ensuring data privacy and security measures are in place to build trust and address user concerns about sharing personal information with the chatbox.

Brainstorming with Figma AI Plugin

Utilizing the provided specifications of a “modern and simple AI chatbox” and my guidance for crafting a contemporary and minimalist AI chatbox desktop interface, Wireframe Designer, crafted by the talented Chenmu Wu, has skillfully generated the foundational blueprint necessary to commence the development of Ellis’s landing page.

This project focuses exclusively on the Chat Assistance feature; the plugin streamlined my ideation process by inspiring me with numerous ideas.

Sketch & Mid-Fidelity Visuals

This is where human imagination takes center stage. I envision Ellis, an AI Assistant capable of discerning various languages and responding accordingly, all while meticulously deciphering user questions and intent with seamless precision.

Subsequent to creating the initial sketch, I transitioned it into mid-fidelity visuals to enhance clarity.

Say goodbye to the days of tirelessly searching Google and grappling with the complexities of USTravelDocs interfaces; Ellis is here to make this journey more humane and meaningful for you.

Before & After: The Ellis AI Advantage

While direct usability testing hasn't been conducted, I anticipate significant value from Ellis AI's core functionalities. By leveraging natural language processing and machine learning, Ellis AI aims to provide personalized guidance, potentially reducing the time and frustration associated with navigating complex immigration requirements. Document translation, powered by AI, intends to streamline the process, eliminating manual effort.

Furthermore, the delivery of real-time legal updates from verified sources is designed to offer users reliable information, potentially mitigating the anxieties stemming from outdated or untrustworthy sources. In essence, Ellis AI is intended to make the immigration process more efficient, accessible, and stress-free, although the precise impact remains to be validated.

Reflection

Project Timeline & AI Integration

This project began just three days ago, and AI has drastically improved my workflow. It has accelerated the design process, allowing me to create a high-quality design in a fraction of the usual time.

Impact of AI on UX/UI Design

This experience highlights AI’s efficiency in UX/UI design and reinforces my commitment to innovation. Embracing AI is not just about speed—it’s about staying ahead in the ever-evolving design landscape.
